Database Programming and SQL Server Hosting

SQL server hosting

To understand what SQL server hosting is, first we need to know what SQL (Structured Query Language) really is. Today SQL is the most popular computer language used to create, modify, retrieve and manipulate data from relational database management systems. During the 1970s, a group at IBM's San Jose research center developed a database system called "System R". Structured English Query Language ("SEQUEL") was designed to manipulate and retrieve data stored in System R. The acronym SEQUEL was later condensed to SQL because the word 'SEQUEL' was held as a trademark by the Hawker-Siddeley aircraft company of the UK. A little later IBM also began to develop commercial products that implemented SQL based on their System R prototype, SQL/DS (introduced in 1981), and DB2 (in 1983).At the same time Relational Software, Inc. (now Oracle Corporation) saw the potential of the concepts described by Chamberlin and Boyce and developed their own version of a RDBMS for the military and others; and in the summer of 1979, Relational Software, Inc. introduced Oracle V2 (Version2), as the first commercially available implementation of SQL. Considerable public interest then developed; soon many other vendors developed versions, and Oracle's future was ensured. SQL was adopted as a standard by ANSI in 1986 and ISO in 1987. Soon after SQL server hosting boom started.

Uses for SQL server hosting

Why is SQL server hosting so common today? SQL is used almost everywhere from large corporations mainframes to small, non-profit www servers. Like PHP, SQL does all its operations on server side connected clients get only what they asked, they dont get any informations created during data processing. SQL is used not only as a pure database language its functions are so flexible that it is used to create www portals, forums, internet shops. Its easier and more secure to storage users informations in a SQL database; it is also easier to update a www service running on SQL server.

SQL is also safe it uses a complex system of passwords checks (timeouts, password-protected databases, not only access to server) There is a small problem depending from data base structure and complexity SQL processes need a huge amount of computing power. Because of that, many SQL server hosting companies have been founded. Such companies lend their server areas to customers, allowing them to create and manage data bases freely. SQL server hosting services are typically paid for, but there exists a large amount of servers that require no payment.

SQL server training

If you're looking for new job opportunities in IT business and you're a moderately experienced computer user, SQL server training might be exactly what you're looking for. As SQL is one of the more useful programming languages existing today and it's usability does not end on database creation -- it is flexible enough to be used in creation of www pages, Internet forums, e-stores in addition to regular databases -- the knowledge of SQL server creation and maintenance will certainly increase the number of potential jobs you will be able to take.

Database creation

The most obvious job after completing SQL server training is a database developer or database manager. However, because SQL servers have much more uses than just maintaining databases, such training might be a good start for an IT manager or IT consultant job. In short, such course is an excellent way of getting into IT business.

What should be inside?

The problem with SQL server trainings (and a general problem with all kinds of computer courses) is the content. SQL can be learnt on very different levels and if you're not careful enough, you might find yourself taking part in a course that is too easy for you (or too difficult, though this is much less probable).

A complete SQL server training should include: Designing, implementing and maintaining a SQL server database, identifying types of data, creating and managing tables, using advanced and distributed queries as well as exporting/importing various types of data. Such training should give you enough information and skills to let you create and maintain a SQL server database and cope with most common problems related to relational databases.

Prerequisites

Another way of determining if the course's level is appropriate for you is to check the prerequisites of a SQL server training you're going to attend to. The basic-level courses usually have no prerequisites while intermediate-to-advanced level trainings tend to ask for being experienced with relational databases systems such as MS Access. Or, in case of advanced-level specialists trainings, previous experience with a SQL server might also be needed to take part in a training.
